Picture Recap

Now that I think I've got this picture thing figured out haha I thought I'd post a few more of what our time here has really looked like.

This was our first block party for local kids and their parents. The church rented a local field and we set up a tent to serve lunch, Crosspoint Bluffton also brought their kids trailer to give away snow cones and popcorn. There were some relay and water games as well as facepainting. The kids really loved the facepainting and water games!

Celebration!
These are from our Monday night gatherings where we share a meal together, worship, play games, and have a teaching time.

Our MC, Jason

we also have a time for sharing testimonies

Building Relationships
Last week, the Bluffton interns and a few other SummerLINKers helped a local church clean, paint and get their new worship center ready for their first service in their new permanent location. It was so exciting to share with their staff in the joy of what God has done. They were obviously thankful for Gods provisions and for our help. Its been great to build relationships with other churches in the area.

These pictures really are just a taste of what we've been doing. I hope to be better about posting the pictures with the updates from now on but I hope you'll enjoy these

Gearing up

Hey Everyone!
I thought its about time for an update! I've had quite the whirlwind few days... I returned on Monday from home for the wedding of a very good friend. It was such a blessing to be a part of God uniting such a Godly, gracious couple. They truly exude love for and obedience to Christ. Their relationship is a beautiful example of what God does when we are in complete submission to Him.

It was such an honor and a privilege to join this great group of women in the bridal party to celebrate the beginning of what I'm sure will be a blessed marriage.

The last couple of weeks for the Bluffton interns has been spent getting ready for the mission groups which will begin arriving next week. So far, we have found a number of service projects for them as well as "backyard bible club" locations. The teams will participate in service activities such as home repair in a habitat for humanity neighborhood, trash pick up, helping out at a center for people with disabilities, as well as painting a local elementary school. Its been amazing to see God put these projects together. Just recently, Gray, the pastor the interns work most closely with, got connected with a pastor at another local church. It turns out that they have been building a relationship with a couple local elementary schools (which has been amazingly blessed They're even allowing the church to send home information on church activities with the children and to come into the classrooms to read stories and such! God works in so many ways we'd never expect!) The church has volunteered to help the school repaint the hallways in some fun patterns and colors for the kids before they return in late July for the next school year. This is quite the undertaking and the church has been praying for the manpower to help them get it finished in time. Gray has been looking for projects that we're sure would effectively fulfill the time the groups will be with us. It was such an answer to prayer for both of us! Bringing in more groups other than the church already working with them will make such a statement to the school about Christians desiring to serve them. So many lives will be touched as families see what was lovingly done for them. We're excited about partnering with another church and building relationships with them as well as with the community through serving together.
BackYard Bible Clubs will essentially be a couple hours of Vacation Bible School type settings that we'll be taking into neighborhoods. The groups are responsible to organize and plan for these. There will be games, snacks, activities and also a teaching time. We're looking forward to what God will do with this time and the relationships we'll make through it.
Being with the interns is such great experience for what I'll be doing next year. I've enjoyed working with them and the Bluffton staff. I've been blessed to watch the male interns lead and to fellowship with and learn from the other female intern. I'm praying that this is a molding time for God to confirm His calling on my life. I'm beginning to see firsthand the demands of a life of ministry. I've always thought that wherever God called me He'd give me a peace and a passion for it. I've felt this about ministry but I think God may use this opportunity to increase my passion which I'm greatly looking forward to.
Weekly activities on project have been running smoothly and we've been exposed to so much. Celebration nights are a lot of fun but also very challenging. We get an opportunity to be together as a group for a meal and some games, lead in times of fellowship and laughter with our energetic MC, Jason. There is also a teaching time that has been really growing. The first week, we studied the Breath of God and the importance of studying His Word. The next week was focused on evangelism, understanding what prevents someone from accepting the gospel and what we as Christians are responsible to do in response. What stood out to me in this message was the selfishness of fear of rejection. When someone rejects the gospel they aren't rejecting us they're rejecting Christ. I should want to enter into Gods presence some day knowing that I did all I could to fulfill the great commission of sharing the amazing gift of Christ with the world. This past week, we had a speaker: Ken Owens, Director of SC Baptist Collegiate Ministries. He spoke to us on Prayer as we began the week of study on it in our Disciples of the Christian Life text. What struck me here was that prayer is a call to a relationship with God. I can honestly say I've been experiencing this and its so amazing. Searching out who my God is and who I am in Him has been one of the most growing experiences of my life. As I seek Him, I feel Him revealing Himself to me and allowing me to grow closer to Him in understanding and love for Him. I've been so deeply blessed by going "past the outer courts" to find my God for who He is.
Bible Study with my roommates and our leader, Becca has also been a great blessing. We've been studying I Thessalonians along with all of SummerLINK. Our group though, has been spending a lot of time examining the character of the author, Paul, and what made him so impressed by the Thessalonian church. Something that I took from this week was how confident Paul was in his faith and his fervent desire to encourage the young church in their great example of being dedicated to standing for Christ despite persecution.
Reflection nights and women's nights have also been encouraging. I find myself doing a lot of journaling and heart searching during reflections. My journal is probably about half full and we're only about 1/4 of the way through project! Its been so great though to pour out all that I'm learning and to have open, honest communication with God about what I feel Him molding in my life. Spending time with the amazing women God has given me the blessing of being with on project has also been so uplifting. My roommates are more of a blessing than I think I could express to them. We've had countless conversations just sitting around the condo that I've taken so much from. Having a designated night in the week to just be with the women is so good for really connecting with sisters and being able to share joys and struggles openly.
Next week, myself, the project staff and other Crosspoint interns will be taking a class on the gospel of John. I'll be spending the rest of the week preparing then all of next week in the class. I'm looking forward to my first seminary class and praying that God uses this time to continue to strengthen my relationship with Him and reveal to me more of who He is.

PICTURES

I know I've been promising pictures for awhile. Still new to the blogging world so its taken me a bit to figure out how to post them then to get the time to get them from my camera! I assure you though I've been busy with some really amazing things that I can clearly see Gods fingerprints all over! Some I've already mentioned in previous blogs. Some of the most recent though are that we went to the second Crosspoint Bluffton Preview Service today. We all helped out at a block party yesterday where we met and hung out with kids and their parents from nearby neighborhoods. The church is doing a great job with outreach really trying to serve and connect with the community. The service itself went very well. We had some first time visitors and a few returners. The team has obviously put a great deal of prayer, work and heart into the preview services. God's doing some great things and I'm excited to see Him work this summer and even more excited that we get to be a part of it!

My wonderful roommates and I on the beach for worship and a baptismal service last Sunday

My roommates are truly blessings I'm so thankful for such a great group of girls to be sharing a condo with. Our summer home is the place of rest it should be with roommates that are such a delight to be around. We've had some great girl time getting to know each other and I'm looking forward to getting to know each of them more throughout the summer.

the view walking from our condos to the beach!

Sunset on the beach during on of our fellowship activities
group fellowship on the beach...hard to beat!

A few pictures of the condo

I do have more pictures of our activities and outreaches that I'll try to post as I get opportunities to do so. Hope everyone is doing well and that you seek encounters with our Savior this week.
God Bless!

What A Week!!

hey everyone!
Its hard to believe tomorrow marks a week since we arrived. In some ways it feels like we've been here longer because of all we've done in such a short time. The time has truly flown though. After orientation, we began either job searching or first days of work. As of now, most of us either have jobs or job offers. I've spent the last couple of days in my job: a Crosspoint Bluffton summer intern helping to plan for and host volunteer teams as they participate in service and outreach opportunities. I'm really enjoying learning more about Crosspoint Blufftons vision for their young church as they prepare for their launch and are already beginning to lay groundwork for shepherding other young church plants. Gods doing great things through the Bluffton and SummerLINK teams. He's really been providing in so many ways. Praise God financial and job needs are being met and our group is really bonding. Sunday was our first opportunity to serve together. After church and baptism on the beach, we had neighborhood canvassing to publicize for this weekends preview service. (Please remember this event in prayer It will be the 2nd of 5 for the summer and one of a few carefully planned and prayed over opportunities for the church plant to grow and build a congregation) On Monday, we began the routine of weekly evening activities. Monday evenings will be Celebration, a time for SummerLINK to eat, fellowship, worship and hear from the Word together. I'm on the committee that plans the activities for this part of SummerLINK so its been exciting to help with this and see how Gods using it to bring us closer as a team. Tuesday nights are Bible Studies. Each apartment meets together with a leader on the staff team and we'll all individually meet with our leader during the week. Wednesdays are reflection nights. Its a time to digest what we've learned throughout the week and spend time allowing God to show us how we should apply it personally. Thursday nights are gender nights so the ladies will spend those evenings in a mix of digging into the Word together as well as fellowship activities. Friday nights are tentatively set to be free evenings. Saturday evenings are social nights. The group will gather for fellowship events and some good downtime to just be together. Sundays we'll have prayer and praise before beginning another work week.
Overall, I'm settling in well and already seeing God work in my life and heart to teach me so much about Him and what He wants to do in my life. I'm looking forward to the summer as it unfolds and I see my God more for who He is as a loving Father who desires to make me more like Him. Oh the great joy in knowing Gods in control and any trials we must endure to be molded in His image are well worth it considering such a beautiful outcome.

Orientation

SummerLINK 2008 Bluffton, SC
Crosspoint Bluffton Church plant
"A summer that echoes into eternity"

Ephesians 3:20-21
Praise God He's able to do way more than we can imagine! My God is bigger, stronger, and more able to handle anything than my human mind thinks of.
Isaiah 49:1-8, 26
The Lord our God has called us to be servants Our labor is not in vain when it is performed to His glory.

These are very VERY brief "nuggets" of so many great lessons from the Word we were presented with today. Orientation has been intensive but so fulfilling. Carl Martin, the Sr Pastor shared the vision of Crosspoint Bluffton and our time here as we serve alongside them. We also heard from the staff of SummerLINK on some important principles to live by this summer and to carry with us after. Maybe the most exciting though has been getting to know the team through fellowship. I can already see us beginning to grow together as roommates, service groups, and a mission project group. Thank you for praying for us! Its been such a relief and a blessing to feel the weight of the nervousness of an unfamiliar situation be lifted. I've been so surprised but thankful at how quickly we all seem to be settling in and relaxing a bit after some of us had been so nervous when we arrived. Please continue to pray for fears of being out of our comfort zones to be lifted but that we would never become complacent!
Tomorrow is church on the beach! We'll be baptizing one of the first Crosspoint Bluffton members as well as sharing in worship, study and fellowship. I'm excited about the rest of the weekend and the coming of a routine in the next few days. Please pray for the provision of jobs for all of us! About half of us have been provided for and we're trusting God that the other half will know by early next week.
Thank you for your prayers and attention to this project. It means so much to know we're supported in prayer and encouragement!
I wanted to share something that came to mind this morning during my time with the Lord. The gravity of what we are embarking on has truly begun to set in. This can and should be a summer that echoes into eternity. What we do here- making disciples and seeking to reach the nations through our interactions with those we meet- has an impact on spiritual lives for eternity.

What I thought of were these Point of Grace lyrics:
When I said that I would follow
It was with an honest heart
But I didn't fully understand the cost
'Cause there are saints throughout the ages
And there are those today
Who show us what it really means to carry the cross
That only fuels my devotion
No matter what comes I will say

Yes, I believe
I believe with all that is in me
Yes, I believe
Though the world rises up against me
I will be faithful
To the choice I have made
I am determined
I will not be ashamed
To live so the whole world can see
That yes, I believe

There will never be a reason
To lose this confidence
For I have found where my assurance lies
It is not in my own power
But in who my savior is
And the truth of this conviction
Makes me shout to the sky

Yes, I believe he is risen
Yes, I believe we are forgiven
Yes, I believe and one day we'll see him
And together we'll say

"Yes I believe"

I'm beginning a journey into finding out so much more about who my God is and what He's called me to. I'm also beginning to really understand the purpose of leaving my comfort zone. God has to shake me of my conceptions of what it means to truly follow.
This summer is no doubt going to be full of highs and lows but in the end its so much more about my walk with Him and following no matter the cost.
